Wet chemical fire extinguishers have been explicitly designed for snuffing out deep fat cooking fires. (Class F fires). Before the production of wet chemical extinguishers, most industrial cooking areas had foam or powder extinguishers, however typical fire extinguisher types such as these can intensify a cooking fat fire as they can not reduce the temperature of oil risking re-ignition, and can make hot oil splash upon contact with the snuffing out agent.
